I’ve been racking my brains trying to think of a birthday memory—good, bad or ugly. I don’t usually do birthdays. My own, anyway. I prefer it to slide by with as little fuss as possible. Especially as I get older. And forget the cake. My best birthday eats are provided by my momma and they aren’t sweet. Momma lets me pick my favorite meal for dinner. No matter how old I get, I still love my mother’s cooking. My favorite tends to alternate each year. Last year, it was liver and onions and mashed potatoes. This year, it’ll be meatloaf, mashed potatoes and purple hull peas. Yum!! Any birthday spent with my family or friends is a good one. Hell, making it to the next one is up there on the list too! *cackle*
Have a fabulous birthday, Lissa! And remember, when it comes to age, it’s mind over matter! If you don’t mind, it don’t matter. Hugs & kisses!
Shayla will be offering an autographed print copy of her novellas Thirty Days and Forever as a present at the end of February…
Thirty Days:
Biton Savakis, a 42 year old wealthy lawyer in New York City, is lost without his beloved slave of ten years. Since Erik’s death from cancer three months before, the will to continue his life as a Dom slipped away. Until now. The forlorn looking redhead seems as lost as Biton feels. Maybe the young man can help ease his tension, even if only for a little while.
Cavan never chose the life of a slave, but he doesn’t clearly remember a time when he wasn’t one. Beaten close to death and thrown aside by his former Master, Cavan doesn’t know how to do anything else. When Biton offers him a temporary contract, Cavan doesn’t understand the meaning of his new Master’s words. All he knows is he has a new home and someone to serve. But what will happen to him when the contract ends… In thirty days..
Content: M/M, bondage, Domination/submission
Forever:
In Biton Savakis’ opinion, following the advice of Cavan’s therapist isn’t working. Refraining from dominant play with an abused submissive trying to heal is one thing. Biton is willing to forgo that part of his life. However, not talking to Cavan about making their arrangement permanent doesn’t make sense.
Three months after his new master promises him forever, Cavan is afraid it won’t happen. Although the thirty day contract is long over, Biton hasn’t offered a new one. Nightmares about testifying against his former master don’t make life easier.
Just as Cavan begins to understand what he means to Biton, Cavan’s past reaches out to steal his happiness and maybe his life.

These sound awesome, I love me some domination and submission heehee. Food is a big thing for me on my birthday too, yummy.
My favorite birthday food is eggplant parm. My mom will make extra so I can freeze it! The best when you have it on italian bread.

I love it when meals are made especially just for you on birthdays!
Growing up we always had special birthday cakes because our grandma was a baker. Now, my hubby takes me out for a nice dinner. Love your books and look forward to this one!

I’m not big on cake either… unless is has the word cheese in front of it!
These two books look awesome! I like to see progression in the lives of the lovers. 😀

I love how your mom makes you something special for your birthday. My grandmother every year makes my favorite dinner, chicken and dumpling ( what can I say I’m just a southern girl lol). And the books sound really good can’t wait to start reading them.
I always have my grandmother make my favorite meal for my birthday. Granted some years it might be a couple weeks late but she still makes it for me. Love her for it.
My favorite birthdays were the ones spent my parents and grandparents. They were small, family only dinners and I loved them.
Shayla is a new author to me. Both books sound really good. Adding to my TBR list.
Those warm and fuzzy birthday memories are just the best to read about. When I was younger, any kind of a steak dinner was a treat. I can remember asking for steak, grilled mushroom and baked potatoe for my birthday dinner, cooked by my Pop, and it always tasted wonderful.

Your books sound very good and the covers are great. One thing that I get my Mom to make me is a Chess pie. She will usually make me one for my birthday and for Christmas.
Not entering this giveaway, just wanted to say that these 2 books BROKE MY HEART (in a good way)! I’m definitely a Shayla Kersten fan.

Biton and Cavan sound like two characters that are going to take me through an intense read. Lots of turmoil that I’m looking forward to reading.

These books sound awesome. Intense, but awesome. It’s hard to read or write the words liver and onions, as that kicks me back to major angst in childhood LOL, but it’s wonderful that your mom still makes you your favorites for your birthday.
Any time I have a gathering, food is always a big priority. It brings us together as a family, that’s for sure. And these books sound ssssooooo good! I love the intensity of emotions her writing brings.
My birthday is ALWAYS centered around food. Whether home cooked or at a restaurant. I remember one year I went to an Asian Fusion place and had this chocolate pyramid desert that almost knocked me out of my chair it was so good! The books in this post sound so emotional. Really intense. I am interested in learning more.

How’s it going, Lissa, on the march to 40? Hugs!
Look at all the comments! I just got home from the evil day job.
@lisagk No cornbread but that would have been good! But I had meatload left over for sandwiches which was great!
@Ivelisse D/s and good food–can’t beat that combo! LOL
@Cindy L Oh, I love eggplant parm! My sister’s last birthday she wanted Italian food. I made eggplant parm and stuffed shells. Momma made risotto and tiramisu. Yum!
@jeanette8042 I’m lucky. I live close to Momma and she’ll make some of my favorites without a special occasion. Makes me feel extra special!
@RobinV Thank you, Robin! A baker in the family would be fantastic! Not that I need more food LOL
@Miranda Well, I love cake too but I never met a food I didn’t like! *cackle* Thanks!
@Susan R Thanks, Susan! I’m working on a new BDSM book too. If I can get the evil day job to cut me some slack. LOL 14-16 hour days make the muse sleepy.
@Amanda Oh, yeah. Chicken and dumplings are another of my favorites. Does your grandmother make fluffy dumplings or the chewy kind? Momma does the fluffy ones. I like those best. Thanks!
@Danielle Grandmothers are great for spoiling us!
@Tracey I come from a big family so a family dinner is never “small”. LOL But I know what you mean. We love the holidays because we all gather at Momma’s and have so much fun together.
@slaing8 Thank you! Hope you enjoy!
@caity_mack! Hugs to you, sweetie! Steak wasn’t something we had often either so it would be a treat all by itself. But the memories are the best part!
@Sherry S. Chess pie is fabulous! So many people have never heard of it. Momma makes a lemon chess pie that is to die for!
@Courtney Thank you so much! I love hearing things like that! Made my long day much brighter! Hugs!
@Leni I hope you enjoy the stories! Thanks!
@Susan C. LOL Liver and onions strike fear into most people I know. In our family, my mother and I are the only two who like it. But that makes it perfect for a birthday meal. We live near each other so no one else shows up for dinner. LOL
@Joder Our family laughs, talks, cuts up and carries on whenever we’re together. Except when the food comes out. Then we all focus on the eats. *cackle* Thank you!
GROUP HUGZ!!
I don’t like too much sweets. But a cheesecake, from time to time, is nice. Interesting books.

Picking meals is a tradition for birthdays in our family too! I don’t usually read m/m, but hey, you never know… Maybe these will be my first ones.

I went right away and put both books in my wish list on allromance. My goodness that list is getting long, and not all of my TBR list is even available there. LOL. My mom gave me my entire wish list for Christmas and I’ve already got tons to replace the ones I bought. LOL hmm wonder if I will get my wish list as a gift again. wouldn’t that be nice. hee hee

Oh I can just see that these books are going to put me through the emotional ringer. LOL. Which I love, can’t stand books with no plot.

I would most def be passing on the liver and onions but my mom makes the best meat loaf ever. I love when I do to her house for our sunday dinner and it’s my turn to pick the meal. hehe we’ve had meat loaf often. haha

My dad is the cook and if I had to choose a birthday meal it would be his Swedish pancakes with real maple syrup.
