It is the last day of my month long Birthday Bash. It has been fun. It has been wonderful. So, thank you to everyone that has taken part in either posting or commenting. I’ll have a post tomorrow wrapping things up, giving you a few pics of presents I’ll be giving away. But for now, let’s get on with today’s post…
This last group of gals… I met them on Twitter when they fell in love with Vinter from my book Simple Need.
They have a fun, hot yummy blog as a group and then each have one individually. They are…
As we get older I do think back to how simple birthdays were when I was little, getting all your friends round to your house for a buffet which included corned beef squares and pickled onions and cheese on a stick, fashioned into the style of a hedgehog. Fun times…. even if they were alcohol free! My friends and colleagues are always amazed at how I can drag my birthday into at least a week of celebrating… what girl wouldn’t given the chance! That is my answer and I know my fellow gutter girls agree with me. Although I have had some memorable birthdays, like my 21st when I fell off a bar stool, not slid… but the whole stool tiiped backwards with me sprawled on the floor being picked up by my friends boyfriends friends (one of whoms job was to import bulls’ semen…. seriosuly)…. oh and it was a packed club.
I like to spend my birthday with friends and family, and even though I am in my 30s I still insist on a birthday cake! My favourite cake is devils food cake with butter cream icing, (don’t like chocolate frosting… I know… people think I am insane) I also like to go out for a meal. no-one should have to cook or wash up on their birthday!
Now for my favourite book and book cover, I am going to go with something that is close to mine and my fellow gutter girls hearts. One of my favourite books and the book which brough Bear and I together over our love of Vane is Sherrilyn Kenyons ‘Night Play’ I read mine till it dropped to bits.
Bride McTierney has had it with men. They’re cheap, self-centered, and never love her for who she is. But though she prides herself on being independent, deep down she still yearns for a knight in shining armor. She just never expected her knight in shining armor to have a shiny coat of fur…
Deadly and tortured, Vane Kattalakis isn’t what he seems. Most women lament that their boyfriends are dogs. In Bride’s case, hers is a wolf. A Were-Hunter wolf. Wanted dead by his enemies, Vane isn’t looking for a mate. But the Fates have marked Bride as his. Now he has three weeks to either convince Bride that the supernatural is real or he will spend the rest of his life neutered–something no self-respecting wolf can accept…
But how does a wolf convince a human to trust him with her life when his enemies are out to end his? In the world of the Were-Hunters, it really is dog-eat-dog. And only one alpha male can win.
the cover… the original… is also PINK!
How could I not love it!

Cake, smoochers and lots of fun! all must haves for Birthdays. Im all for acting like a Princess on your day, it’s only once a year, a girl has to take advantage of that *grins* Im pretty simple to please though, time with my friends and family, a slice of cake and a kiss or three and im a happy Bear.
Now for my favourite book, i actually have too many to choose from, so i am going with the one that has affected me the most. Acheron – Sherrilyn Kenyon. sigh. my boy Ashy, he is the great love of my Dark Hunter Life and his book had me an emotional wreck that lasted days afterwards. It took me around 11 hours to finish his mammoth book from start to finish, so happy with the outcome, but darn i was drained. It’s the book that’s stayed in my heart the longest. And Acheron brough fellow gutter girl jay and i together as partners in crime, he still is our shared mate to this day. *grins*
The most anticipated story in the blockbuster Dark-Hunter series. The never-before-revealed story of the Dark-Hunter leader, Acheron. He was made human in order to escape death, but in death he was reborn a god. . .
Eleven thousand years ago a god was born. Cursed into the body of a human, Acheron spent a lifetime of shame. However, his human death unleashed an unspeakable horror that almost destroyed the earth. Then, brought back against his will, Acheron became the sole defender of mankind.
Only it was never that simple. For centuries, he has fought for our survival and hidden a past he’ll do anything to keep concealed. Until a lone woman who refuses to be intimidated by him threatens his very existence.
Now his survival, and ours, hinges on hers and old enemies reawaken and unite to kill them both.
War has never been more deadly… or more fun.
I prefer the USA cover, because it was his sun symbol he wears on his body. Anyone who knows Acheron, knows it was impossible not to love his book. sigh.
I, for whatever reason, have a history of crappy birthdays. the worst two being my 16th birthday & my 21st birthday. Two milestone “big” birthdays, one would think they would be fabulous. Sadly, that is not the case. My 16th birthday was crap because my so-called best friend (whose b-day was 4 days after mine) had her Sweet Sixteen party on the day of my actual birthday. she’s a complete cow, obviously. I was so depressed. birthday #16 was eclipsed by birthday #21 when I was out with the same so-called best friend & could not get served a drink because I was with her & she wasn’t 21 yet. We tried at 3 different restaurants before giving up & I went home in tears.
My best birthday was my 18th since I got my very favorite present to date. My mom (the best mom ever!) got me a plane ticket to California to go visit my best guy friend….who happened to be in the Air Force & I spent 5 days on base with loads of single guys. it was heaven! =)
My favorite way to spend my birthday is with family and friends, just a small-ish affair. I’m not really into huge parties, a result of the aforementioned crappy birthdays. as long as there’s good food & booze, it doesn’t really matter where we go. Chocolate cake with chocolate icing, ice cream are absolute requirements. I can’t have a birthday without them…and who would want to, really?
Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard is one of my favorite books. It has the perfect combo of a hot alpha male & a hot snarky chick. I love the relationship between Jaine & her three friends. Sam is a seriously sexy cop who lives next door. Jaine’s smart ass mouth reminds me of….me! =)
WHAT WOULD MAKE THE PERFECT MAN?
That’s the deliciously racy topic that Jaine Bright and her three girlfriends are pondering one night at their favorite after-hours of spot: Mr. Perfect. Would he be tall, dark, and handsome? Caring and warmhearted – or will just muscular do? As their conversation heats up, they concoct a tongue-in-cheek checklist that becomes an overnight sensation, spreading like wildfire at work and sizzling along e-mail lines. But what began as a joke among friends turns deadly serious when one of the four women is murdered….Turning to her neighbor, an unpredictable police detective, for help, Jaime must unmask a killer to save her friends – and herself. Now, knowing whom to trust and whom to love is a matter of survival – as the dream of Mr. Perfect becomes a chilling nightmare.
We have two days left here for my Birthday Bash and I hope all of you readers have had a little fun learning about authors and bloggers over the month of February. I hope some of you have found new authors to try, maybe a new genre to look into, a new publisher to seek out. I have loved having everyone here and posting. The comments have been great and I feel so incredibly lucky to know so many wonderful people and to call them friend.
Today, I have my very good friend, author Fallon Blake. We have a lot in common from food to BDSM, except she’s Vegetarian and I’m not. Grins…
Happy Birthday Lissa! May you get your forty spankings *evil grin*.
I have to be honest here; I have the most boring birthdays EVER. Well, that wasn’t always true, but no one wants to hear about my girl-gone-wild days and even if you do, I’m taking those secrets to the grave.
For me the very best part of the whole birthday deal is not feeling guilty about what you put in your mouth. I’m talking about food people! Well, I’m certainly not one to tell you to get your mind out of the gutter. Just make room for cake while you’re down there…dark chocolate cake…with raspberry. Sounds good doesn’t it? It is decadent even if you’re not veggie like me.
I wanted to share the cake recipe I make for my birthday every year. What? I like to bake, and this way I always get the cake I want. Anyway, it’s really hard to find a bakery around here that can do a good vegan cake. The best part is you’d never know it was vegan. Whenever anyone asks me to bring something to a get-together, I bring this baby. There is never a crumb left and everyone is always shocked it’s vegan. Of course I don’t tell them until after they’ve eaten it *snicker*.
Raspberry Blackout Cake
Recipe from Vegan with a Vengeance
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup dark cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups plain soy milk
1/2 cup of canola oil
1 (10 oz.) jar raspberry jam – reserve 1/2 cup for batter *note: the original recipe calls for preserves, but I am so not down with picking seeds out of my teeth four hours after I eat a piece so I switched to jam. You’ll thank me.
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/4 cup sugar
Fresh raspberries for decorating and yuminess
Preheat oven to 350. Spray two 8-inch round cake pans with cooking spray. I use Wilton’s Cake Release to keep it from sticking *note: I have no idea if it’s vegan, but it rocks for baking cakes.
Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Combine the soy milk, oil, 1/2 cup of the preserves, the vanilla, and the sugar in a large bowl and mix with a hand mixer or strong fork. For the most part, the jam should dissolve with the rest of the ingredients, but some small clumps are okay. Add the dry ingredients to the wet in batches and mix until everything is incorporated. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake at 350F for 40-45 minutes.
When the cakes have cooled, spread one layer of cake with a thin layer of raspberry jam. Spread a layer of chocolate frosting on the top of the preserves. Place the other layer of the cake on top and spread its top with preserves. Spread chocolate frosting over the top, then ice the sides.
CHOCOLATE GANACHE FROSTING:
3/4 cup of soy creamer (Silk soy creamer, or plain soy milk)
6 tablespoons non-hydrogenated margarine
10 oz. semisweet chocolate chips
In a saucepan, over medium heat, bring the soy creamer to a low boil. All margarine, turn off the heat, stir in chocolate chips until smooth. Let sit for at least 1 hour. It should have a pourable consistency. If you want a spreadable consistency, then refrigerate for one hour. Do not refrigerate it for more than an hour, it will set too much to be spreadable. Allow the ganache to set then eat until your chocolate lovin’ heart is content!

The birthday I remember with the most affection came when I turned twelve. We’d lost our family pet, a sweet, elderly dachshund named Susie, a few months earlier. It was a sad time for all of us, especially my parents – they’d had Susie since before I was born. After that, my mother put her foot down and said no more pets for awhile. She just couldn’t handle losing another one.
Then my grandmother’s cat had kittens, and they were six of the most adorable balls of fluff I’d ever seen. I wanted one so badly, but Mom said no. But grandmothers have a way of getting what they want. So when Gram showed up at my birthday party cradling one of the kittens in her arms, Mom gave her a stern look, then turned to me and said, “Fine, you can have it. But you have to clean its box every day and feed it!”
All of which I did gladly. Since that day, I’ve been a confirmed cat person. In fact, there’s a little black-and-white fellow named Timothy warming my feet right now. 🙂

My favorite birthday was when I turned 21. I was on an airplane heading home from Riodoso, New Mexico. After a week of playing in the snow, skiing and snowmobiling, I had to go home. The flight crew found out it was my 21st birthday. Soon, I was being handed drinks in celebration. I had never really had much to imbibe on prior to this moment, so, I got tipsy real quick. The flight attendant made an announcement on the PA system and everyone on the airplane sang to me. I got to take home a bunch of those little alcohol bottles full of different types of liquor. By the time we landed, I was in a total party mood. My dad laughed when I came out of the tunnel. He said I looked toasted. I was, indeed.
For all our birthdays, we go to Spaghetti Factory. I always order the Manager’s Favorite of Mizithra and Marinara. My sister-in-law makes cool cakes, so she puts together cool themed cakes for each of us. I am hoping this year she does Star Wars themed cupcakes.
Since my birthday is this month, and my second paranormal romance release is celebrating a one year anniversary, I thought I would include that one for the blurb. The book is Bound By Rebellion, Blood-Vine 2. Here is the blurb: Katiya and Lucas are blood-bound mates. Nearly a decade ago, their idyllic relationship quickly devolved into one of animosity. Furious with Luke’s meddling in her privacy, Katiya left him. Except they have a pesky issue that continues to bind them together–they must carry on sharing their blood or face the deadly consequences, literally.
Ten years have passed since Kat moved out. Now, their estrangement is firmly in place and she is desperate to get on with her life. So desperate that she will even rebel against the long-held convictions of her people. Secretly, she has formed an infatuation for a co-worker. Tonight, she plans to take it to the next level.
Luke is unhappy with their tenuous situation. He is prepared to do anything to win her back. He wants her in his arms where he can show her the depths of his need. If seduction is the key to their reconciliation, he is more than ready to take her to new levels of pleasure. He needs her home with him to keep her safe and secure.
Once Kat takes a drastic step to alter her life, she comes face to face with a sinister threat. Lucas must find her in time, and when he does, he promises, on his life, that nothing will keep them apart ever again.
