I’m still here. I promise. I pinched a nerve in my lower back a few days ago and well… PAIN. To sit, to walk, to stand, to pretty much move at all. PAIN. Add in PMS and I’m just a barrel of fun!
I was just starting to get back to my writing after the Lori Foster event. I didn’t get the chance to write as much as I’d hoped. I did spend a lot of time people watching though. I was asked, begged, pleaded with to try and go to Authors After Dark in August in Philly. There were a few spots open because some people didn’t pay evidently by the end date and I jumped in and reserved a place. I’m all paid up, too.
I’m going as an author but I won’t be doing the signing because my books are not in print. Oh well. I will have some promo at Authors After Dark. And my friend and I are looking to do a Do You Know Vinter? promo thing… How fun, right?
In case y’all didn’t know, we took some winding, mountain roads through Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina on the way home from Cincinnati. Beautiful areas. Depressed areas. Crazy ‘get me the hell out of here’ areas, and lots of inspiration. We happened upon a park called Breaks Interstate Park. It’s the Grand Canyon of the South. It’s gorgeous and spans both Virgina and Kentucky. I was speechless at the views.
I will be driving to Authors After Dark and well, I can only imagine the winding roads I’ll find on that trip. I’m looking forward to it. I’m going as a tag-along, a hanger-on because I hadn’t planned on going at all. We’ll see how it goes.
For those readers of mine that are wondering, I have not heard from my Samhain editor. I sent her a follow-up email. Hopefully, she’s just incredibly busy and will get back to me soon.
I will be venturing into self-publishing this Summer and it will hopefully allow me to write some shorter, hot pieces while I still working on the longer pieces for my publishers. Speaking of… let me ask y’all this… Do you want hot, erotic books still? Or are your tastes leaning toward more mainstream, sweet romance? I know Samhain has been pushing that they accept mainstream and sweet and yes they still accept and take erotic and I’m really wanting to know what readers are wanting. Are you still interested in erotic stories or have your tastes calmed and now you want more of a mainstream book?
As a reader, I don’t want sweet. I don’t really want mainstream all that much. I still want the hot, sexy, squirm in my seat and locate the batteries books.
So as a reader, what do you want to read more of? Spill your guts…
And now, I’m going to have to cut this short. I’ve stood here writing this post and my back is protesting mightily. It’s off to the couch for me with some ibuprofen and a pillow between my knees. An iced caramel macchiato that can be sipped through a straw is probably a good idea too.
Hope y’all are staying cool this weekend…

Is a Kentuckian by Grace of God (Michigander by fate) and can only say that across this great land every state has it’s “Get me out of here” Anti-tourists sites at times side by side with the “wow, this is beautiful stop the car and let’s look” locales. Good luck with Samhain Lissa! I’m jealous of your EC work–I can’t seem to get them to consider me at all! I am seeking stuff to read that has thick, meaty plots, well written and edited dialogue AND doesn’t sneak away when the bedroom door closes! Not easy to find but I have lucked into a few of them.
cheers and have a great time at your next conference!
Liz
So sorry that you back is screaming at you, Lissa, and I hope this will be a better week.
As for storylines I am looking for, you said it perfectly, “I still want the hot, sexy, squirm in my seat and locate the batteries books”. Amen…
Hot and erotic all the way, baby! The steamier the better. I like romantic and romantic suspense too – it all depends on my mood. But I must admit, I prefer to be left hot and bothered … isn’t that what fantasy is all about? Thinking about things we may not have the guts to talk about let alone do. We all have dreams of being swept away by a hunky guy, but how often does he tie us up and have his wicked way with us first.
Oh yeah!
Lissa, hope your back feels better soon. I know back pain is no fun; when it hurts it feels like your whole body is outta whack.
My reading tastes have not changed… I want hot, steamy, leg-crossing erotic stories (often with some kink thrown in). The hotter, the better! 😉
I still want the steamy books!
YEAH for AAD!! 🙂
Hope your back is feeling better soon. ((((hugs))))
I feel your pain. Hope you feel better soon. And a drink through a straw is always welcome.
Hope your back feels better soon.
I quit reading most mainstream romance for a reason…they’re too tame & sweet. I like the hot & sweaty do me against the wall romances.
*palmsmackforehead* tell me your kidding.. mainstream..sweet?
1) I really hope you feel better soon in regards to your back with the added pms… *winces* I feel ya, hun.
2) I’m with Courtney’s comment.. if you go mainstream, I will drink myself stupid (and try Grey Goose for the first time ;))
I figured there was a reason I left Samhain… 😉
Feel better, Lissa. 🙂
Y’all are funny! And interesting. I had a feeling what the answer would be… But, I wanted to actually get the answers from you. I tried reading sweet romance. I tried reading mainstream but it was too…something and I wasn’t able to keep reading it long term. Sometimes I like it, but it’s rare. Kind of like Chick Lit. Sometimes I can read it, but most times, I can’t because I can’t connect with those characters. Some of my books, have a slight mainstream tone, but I don’t aim for that, not at all. I like writing the erotic romance stories. I like the heat and hunger and sexual tension. I like those kinds of characters and I think they can have as much love and depth as any other in any other genre or sub-genre. I myself won’t be switching. I’ll be writing longer books and adding more depth and story, but they’ll still be as hot and passionate and kinky as my others.
I appreciate your honesty and am quite glad of it!
Redd… Samhain still has some good erotic books. Don’t leave them…
I have to admit that I go to your books for the hot, squirmy, where are the batteries reads :D. Hope your back feels better soon and that you hear back from your editor. I am looking forward to your next book.
yep sign me up for squirmy.
