Yesterday was the Daytona 500. It was bittersweet for me. My driver, Kyle Busch was in a wreck on Saturday in the Xfinity race. His right leg and his left foot are broken and required surgery overnight. He will be out of the car for several months and Joe Gibbs Racing hasn’t announced yet who the driver of the No. 18 will be until Kyle returns. It just wasn’t fun without him in the race.
I have to applaud Matt Crafton though, who filled in for Kyle in the race. He did a fantastic job.
The other bittersweet part? Jeff Gordon, driver of the No. 24 announced several weeks ago that this will be his last full time season in Nascar. He’s been an amazing role model in the sport and his talent will be missed. Yesterday was the start of his final season and the start of his final Daytona 500. He didn’t cross the finish line due to a wreck that took out several cars on the last lap.
In honor of the No. 24, my musical choice today is Brad Paisley’s Old Alabama in which Jeff Gordon makes a guest appearance…
Best of luck to Jeff Gordon throughout the season and best wishes to Kyle Busch as he heals and recovers over these next months…
